In our 25 years of existence, we have faced many challenges. One of them has always been “How to pay for expenses that are not so visible to donors or do not benefit the animals directly like maintenance and repair?” Most of the time the “general donations” we receive will cover our costs but there is one blind spot in our planning: our administration!
Just like most of our donors, we want all the money coming into Karuna to go directly to the animals, for food, medicines and staff, as these all improve the welfare of the animals directly.
BUT!!! We have to account for every rupee coming in, keep an extensive administration with the banks, the home ministry and the local government. In addition, we have to provide donors with reports.
It turns out that the accountant/administrator is maybe the most important person at Karuna!
Officially and legally we are supposed to take a certain percentage from donations per project and account for it as “Admin”.
We never did that!
Meet Rajeswari, our current accountant/administrator (PIC). She is invisible but does all the office work! We cannot keep her valuable work a secret any longer!
Our request to donors is to give her some special consideration, maybe specific donations? A huge and grateful THANK YOU!
