Karuna’s cattle hospital was built with a grant from the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI). Karuna’s rescued cattle receive excellent medical care when they grow old or are disabled. They are cared for until they die a natural and peaceful death at the hospital.
In the large animal operation theatre the surgeon performs rumenotomy (to remove plastic from the cow's stomach - see also The Plastic Cow), amputations and sterilisations of she-buffalo and cows.
"Seeing the surgery of the plastic cows changed my perception of cows and milk production dramatically, I do not consume it anymore and I never felt better!"
