Dear Friends of Karuna,
For many, many years you have received newsletters and updates from Karuna Society, about our accomplishments and what we have provided for the animals: survival, medical treatment, recovery and a home with love. At present, our Secretary Narendra and his daughter Yukthi are providing wonderful stories about the rescues on our social media pages.
Just this morning I realized that this is only a small part of the story of Karuna! What is happening in the background? What are our struggles?
-
How does the extreme suffering of animals affect the emotional, mental and physical health of all of us involved in their care?
-
Then, we have to see to the funding…the insecurity of not having a corpus fund to provide for difficult times. We are dependent on friends, animal lovers and donor organisations to feed our animals, to pay salaries and run the ambulances.
-
How to deal with nature’s fury like droughts, which means “No water!” to grow what we need?
-
And last, but not least, the growing indifference and immorality of human animals towards their earth family!
This is why I want to take a different approach! To share with you what really matters to me, to us, not only what happens to the actual animals that are with us but also our own, personal struggles in all of this, to take it seriously that inside the Karuna family we all matter!
Yesterday, Narendra came to me to discuss all his worries. He didn’t see anymore how to battle all the problems.
I didn’t have an answer!
When I came to India I was 50 yrs old, with a lifetime love for animals but with little understanding about their rights or their suffering worldwide. When we started Karuna Society in 2000 I was 55 yrs old, and now I am 81. I have breast cancer with ups and downs of pain and depression. I work from home and whenever I can, I go to the office and meet the animals.
I am also a Vegan from the time we did the surgeries for the “Plastic cow”, and I am very much alone in this. Worldwide there are many vegans but not many here – and not even in my own home.
This is enough for today. I will write whenever… and share!
Please support our work and help us to build up a Corpus Fund for difficult times! Click here to donate: https://karunasociety.org/donate. Thank you so much!
