In early May we got a call from the nearby Ashram saying that a monkey fell from the fourth floor of one of the buildings. This happened during a thunderstorm with heavy rain. Karuna staff rushed there and saw that the monkey was a baby Bonnet Macaque, merely 5 months old and in a coma-like state with blood oozing out from one of his ears. Other than this no physical injury was visible. We named the monkey Raja and the doctor confirmed that Raja had suffered injury to the head leading to internal bleeding.
Thanks to the careful care of Karuna’s hardworking staff, Raja stabilised and is now thriving and has befriended Chinnu, another female bonnet macaque who lost all her limbs to electrocution.
