On 23rd May, a monkey was brought to the Karuna Society for Animals and Nature shelter after a complaint was lodged regarding a severe bite incident involving a neighbour’s child. The case was reported to Hindupur Police Station, and both the Police and Forest Department ensured that the monkey was officially handed over to our shelter by his owners.
At the Karuna shelter, we are now providing him with the care, nutrition, and rehabilitation he needs. Sadly, monkeys that are kept as pets often suffer physically and mentally from being separated from their own kind. In this case, we have observed unusual behaviour and obesity, both of which may be linked to his past living conditions.
Our rehabilitation team will gradually assess whether he can safely integrate with other monkeys. If he successfully socializes and adapts, we will work towards returning him to a natural environment. However, if he is unable to coexist with his fellow monkeys, he will remain under the lifelong care and protection of the Karuna shelter.
Wild animals belong in the wild, with their own species. Every monkey deserves freedom, companionship, and a chance to live as nature intended. ❤️
