Dear Friends of Karuna,
Finally Corona has entered Karuna. We have tried to be very strict with the masks, but…..! Some of our staff have been coughing recently and Narendra, our Secretary, and his family tested positive some days ago. (All have now recovered.) Two days ago, two more attendants got sick and needed to stay home. They will be tested tomorrow at home by the health department.
For the management of our shelters it means moving attendants around, working with less people and taking help from outside.
There is a strong stigma connected with Covid and fear of being isolated from the family. Most people know by now the symptoms of Covid but they do not get tested and instead, they go to their local doctor and hope they have something different. As a consequence, they continue to go around spreading the virus without proper treatment. When they do not recover, they finally go to the covid centre – but it might be too late!
I also need to share with you the great loss, a few days ago, of N. Ahmed, our long time dear friend and Board Member of Karuna Society.
As I have already been vaccinated and Narendra has recovered (he’s had the first dose of the vaccine), we are able to oversee all activities and make adjustments to make sure that all animals are cared for.
In addition, there is now a total lockdown here since yesterday. Thanks for everybody’s support and interest! We will keep you posted on all of this.
Be safe, be well,
Clementien
