On December 4th, 2010, the Commissioner of Anantapur Municipal Corporation organized a meeting at our cattle hospital. Recently, Karuna Society received 36 street roaming cows from Anantapur the largest town in the district. Karuna immediately provided these cows with medical treatment, fodder and shelter. Karuna Society’s Humane Education Programme was launched in December 2010 and has covered 4 schools to date. The building for this hospital was completed and is fully functional. It admits inpatient cows, bulls, calves, donkeys, ponies and injured goats for treatment and surgery by our specialized veterinary doctor. We even have a camel in our care. We provide shelter, nursing facilities and feed to the patients as well as providing mechanical lift
This poor animal would have been sent for slaughter had it not been for the timely intervention of our resident Vet. We cared for her and later returned her to her owner.
On 3rd July 2009, the local police department confiscated a truck that had been overloaded with 32 cattle destined for slaughter. Among the cattle were young, healthy animals and even pregnant ones. The cattle are now under our care. The healthy working bulls will be given to local farmers under a strict adoption plan.
On June 8th 2009, WVS supported by the local veterinary doctors joined hands with the Karuna veterinary doctor and assistants to conduct a medical camp in the neighbouring village of Buchaiahgaripalli. In April 2009, we received a donkey infected with tetanus in the advanced stages. Thanks to the special care in our in-patient ward it is gradually recovering.
In March 2009, Karuna Society purchased 18 acres of agricultural land next to its present organic farm. We are grateful to Philip Wollen for his generous donation that enabled us to buy the land.
