Newsletter: To Hope or Not to Hope? That is the Question.

Dear Friends,

(Please see the Newsletter online HERE)

I will just say how I see the change in the political landscape in the USA. It will be a disaster for all animal and nature related rescue efforts in the world.
The longing for love, compassion, belonging and unity of all life forms will be suppressed by fear, misinformation, hate, power grabbing and abuse.
Every one of us will feel the consequences of this event in our own public and personal life.
Some say that western civilization is coming to its end. Maybe, the implications are too complicated and far reaching to know.
How do we now look at the future? How can we continue our work for animals and nature? Is there any hope?
Believing that there is still hope is projecting a positive outcome of all our efforts and work into a future we cannot know or predict.!
Since Covid and the lockdowns, the world has changed. The overwhelming presence of the internet, A I and misinformation has made it very difficult to bring our mission of Karuna Society for Animals and Nature into the public awareness. Fundraising becomes an impossible task. (Sounds familiar?)
What if we take the position of “no hope”? No expectations, no reward for all our work? No fame, no money, just pain?
What does this mean for Karuna’s animal shelter and wildlife rescue in Puttaparthi, India?
-Fear that there will be no funds available in the near future for our frontline work of first aid, food and shelter for stray animals.
-Fear that we cannot pay for the salaries for the longtime employees who take care and nurse all our inpatients and residents, especially the outpatient department.
-Fear that we cannot finalize the most important one of our projects, the “Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre” that is being constructed at present, and is about half way done!
-Fear of losing trust in our fellow humans, losing our sense of belonging.

The position of “NO HOPE”:
Can we just step back and sit down for a moment and realize that what happens to us now is a small event in the balancing act of the universe!
If we can focus on that, we can be part of that new balance. Open up to new ideas to work with.
Do I think the universe will abandon animals and nature and us? NO! But we might not like the treatment we receive if we are trying to hold on to our own fears and PTSD.

What do we have at the Karuna family that might be worth persuiing, is more important than our fears? ?
-The life saving rescue centre for wild animals and their forests is in progress.
-During the last year we have improved dramatically on the food supply for all animals; the cattle receive now daily green grass and we have saved a lot on expenses.
– At the animal shelter for domestic animals we are looking for ways to improve the quality of the treatment and care of inpatients and residents by including the welfare of the staff in the planning. possible breakfast at the shelter together for communication and a sense of belonging?
-Providing the staff with t-shirts with the text; “KARUNA IS COMPASSION”, as a means of awareness for themselves and the public.
-The Karuna shop has opened up again in Puttaparthi where fresh organig vegetables are available including information about all our activities. It is an effort to stay in touch with the local communities and visitors.
