Ramu the bull was rescued in 2003 from transport to the slaughterhouse in Chennai together with 305 others. Ten trucks full of cattle were confiscated and the animals were handed over to Karuna Society for custody.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Some pairs of working bulls were adopted by farmers but many stayed at Karuna. Ramu, also a strong working bull, gave his service to Karuna when needed together with his partner, by pulling the bullock cart and ploughing the fields.<\/p>\n

For the last few years Ramu had no duties as he was getting old. A few weeks ago he collapsed suddenly while he was grazing and could not get up.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The next day he was transported to the cattle hospital at Karuna Society.\u00a0He received treatment, painkillers, good food, bedding and care. His face showed happiness and satisfaction with the care he received.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Unfortunately, that did not last as there was more pain and discomfort. He finally died in the early morning on October 27, 2022.<\/p>\n

For almost 20 years Karuna has provided care and food for all these rescued animals, some of whom have died in the meantime but still we have 204 rescued cattle at our shelter. This is a reminder to all of us and our friends that the rescue of animals is not only the happy event of the day but it involves the long term responsibilities of caring and feeding till the end of their lives!<\/strong><\/p>\n
