I found this picture of a laying hen on the Facebook page of “Stray Assist” in Goa. It touched me deeply as it belongs to my expression about chickens that I wrote some time ago, here it is:<\/h3>\n

As an animal rescuer and animal rights activist I value the lives of animals. Over the years I have enjoyed articles and a growing awareness of the lives of rescued chickens, how they show “who they really are” when they get a chance.<\/h3>\n

Taking a step back, I look at the production of billions of little chicken lives, forced into existence, their bodies and children owned by the producer. The suffering, abuse and cruelty they are subjected to results in an existential trauma that prevents any possibility of expressing “who they are” and our recognition of their “sameness”. Inside the mass-produced little bodies there is “nobody home” – their conscious, emotional and spiritual existence has been disconnected from their physical bodies by trauma. They exist on a suicidal level. These are not being rescued, nobody is coming for them.
\nThe billions of factory chickens finally end up hanging upside down on the transport line where their heads are mechanically cut off. This might be the only act of mercy they will ever experience. \u2013 Clementien \ud83d\ude22\ud83d\udc14\ud83d\udc25\ud83d\udc23<\/h3>\n
