A few weeks ago our office received a call from the Forest Department\u00a0of Penukonda to help in the rescue of a leopard cub. It was brought to our center with badly wounded hind legs. The cub was approximately\u00a01.5 months old.\u00a0 Most probably the villagers found it and the dogs attacked it as the mother was hunting. The real story is not known.<\/p>\n

At Karuna Society the\u00a0cub\u00a0was treated by the veterinary surgeon, who\u00a0administered\u00a0a drip, painkillers\u00a0and antibiotics and treated its’\u00a0wounds. It was\u00a0active\u00a0and drinking some milk. It was decided by the District Forest Officer that the cub had to be shifted to the Tirupathi Zoo, which\u00a0has\u00a0proper facilities for wildlife.<\/p>\n

We are wondering why the wild cats are coming so close to human habitat. Most probably there is no more water in the forest, the\u00a0water bodies\u00a0have dried up due to the drought. All animals are in search of water. Villagers burn down the forest as they want to have green grass as soon as the rains start and the thousands of grazing goats are eating the planet empty.\u00a0 Hence, wildlife is under a lot of pressure and always at risk.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
